President

Randall Stout, FAIA, is the President and Principal-in-Charge of Los Angeles-based Randall Stout Architects, Inc. Regarded as a visionary whose evocative design aesthetic consistently challenges architectural conventions, Stout creates environments that capture the unique composition of their natural surroundings, while transforming light, shadow, form, and materials into dynamic architecture.

Directing projects worldwide, Stout’s design experience encompasses museum, civic, educational, commercial, institutional, industrial, recreational, and residential facilities. Across this broad spectrum of project types, his buildings are known for dynamic forms, state of the art technology, and environmental sustainability. Current projects include the Art Museum of Western Virginia, the Art Gallery of Alberta, and the Institute for the Visual Arts at the University of Alabama, Birmingham.

Holding many roles including educator, mentor, and environmentalist, Stout is an active leader in the profession. Frequently serving as an adjunct professor, lecturer, or architecture studio critic, Stout has contributed to the academy by teaching innovative design and sustainability strategies and lecturing at academic and professional conferences across the country. Most recently Stout served as the E. Fay Jones Chair of Architecture at the University of Arkansas.

A passionate advocate for environmental responsibility, Stout is a LEED Accredited Professional. He lectures widely on the topic of green design and focuses on real strategies and results for sustainable design both in the U.S. and abroad. Notable sustainable projects include the Steinhude Sea Recreational Facility which was awarded an AIA-COTE Top Ten Green Award and the German SOLTEC 98 Award for “Innovation in Technology.”

Featured in international publications and exhibitions, Stout’s projects have been honored with a number of awards for excellence in design and sustainability. Most recently, the Art Museum of Western Virginia was recognized for an American Architecture Award from the Chicago Athenaeum. RSA projects have been published in books and magazines in North America, Europe and Asia, and are featured in the monograph, Environmental Alchemy: Randall Stout Architects.
